Special
Menus from 17th Aug 2010
From
17th Aug 2010, Coriander Leaf and Screening Room restaurants are offering
special menus, where 20% of proceeds go towards the flood relief effort.
Priced at $60++ and $120++ per person, the restaurants aim to implore
assistance from restaurant goers to select these menus and help rebuild
lives whilst dining out. Everyone can provide assistance in their own
way, even while they are having dinner on a celebratory night or entertaining
clients. Client entertaining does not come to a standstill during world
disasters and companies are always struggling to find ways to fulfill
their Corporate Social Responsibility. Through these menus the Coriander
Leaf Group offer companies a way to contribute back towards society whilst
entertaining.

Severity
of the situation
One-fifth
of Pakistan’s population have been displaced by what has been
known as Pakistan’s worst flooding in 80 years. Estimates
of the death toll range from 1,300 to 1,600, however, it is the
20 million survivors that are currently suffering, as their livelihood,
home, as well as food & fresh water sources were simply washed
away by the torrential rain. An area roughly the size of England
has been destroyed in what is the country’s worst ever, humanitarian
disaster. The disaster is not over, as new floods are forecasted
to occur over the next few weeks, and diseases prove rampant in
areas where people are marooned from aid.
|
|
|
Pakistani
& international charities and agencies are struggling to provide
aid with the magnitude of the disaster, inaccessibility due to destroyed
infrastructure and the growing need for food, water, shelter and medical
treatment.
Samia Ahad, owner and culinary director of The Coriander
Leaf Group, urges more aid to be directed towards Pakistan. She
currently has personal friends and relatives who are onsite in Pakistan,
assessing ways to efficiently and effectively provide aid. With
the disaster at such a large scale, the best way may be to target
one village at a time.
The
Coriander Leaf Group is currently racing against time, to explore
various channels to raise funds. Other fund raising efforts are
currently in the pipeline. Tapping on their client database and
network, they also hope to increase awareness about the severity
of the situation. Help us help Pakistan - together, we can rebuild
lives.
